We have so much to learn from the past but It's a natural reflex to avoid thinking of the past . First of all it is true the past is not here anymore ,but what happened in the past affects directly or indirectly the present. Like a trauma in a childhood for example and in the other hand past is the creator of wisdom (based on the experience of course ) so it is relevant in our daily basis . Like Jorge Santayana once quote " Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it. The main reason the past exists is for us to learn from it, in order for us to apply it in our today (present). In conclusion past is as much important as the present because it might be "Past" but still exists , is still "Present".
"I can't think of the past. The only thing that matters is the everlasting present."
-W.Somerset Maugham, English author.
